Are you up to being a WINGS Mentor?
Our mentors are driven by their commitment to give back to others who can benefit from their experience and work.
A WINGS mentor is an experienced leader, a successful and seasoned professional who provides advice, encouragement and support. A WINGS mentor leads and guides by example through his/her expertise. Mentors advise on problem identification, problem solving and issues resolution.
A good mentor is willing to spend the time and make an honest effort to help the mentee in pursuing her goal. Mentoring is a serious responsibility and should never be treated as a casual activity. Mentors will help mentees set up their long-term goals, road map, success criteria and report progress to the respective champion who is assigned to each mentee. Mentors will be making recommendations on what is required for mentee to be successful. This relationship officially ends when engagement ends after one year.
Mentor and Mentee can continue the relationship after program on their own if they chose to do so.
A typical mentor’s runbook
As a first step, our mentors spend time understanding mentee’s goals. This process always bring about review points with the mentee and at this juncture the mentor reviews this objectively with the mentees to achieve the following:
- Explore the mentee’s representation. The mentor probes to discover prior knowledge.
- Enable the mentee to correct or refine her representation.
- Provide insights and new information for the mentee to incorporate in her representation. The mentor provides unknown information only as the mentee needs it.
The mentor puts together a customized Mentoring Evaluation Plan in line with WINGS’ Mentoring framework. Our mentors engage a myriad ways to develop leadership qualities that are based on the following principles:
- Understanding mentee’s definition of success
- Build confidence with industry knowledge and wisdom
- Promote peer mentor and cross functional interactions
- Envision an inspiring strategy with purpose to lead
- Building resilience in refining and adjusting their course of actions to ensure success
Our mentors record scores against Key Performance areas at recommended intervals. These are then used by both the mentor and mentee in their assessment to revise and re-calibrate the next steps forward.
Our advisors frequently assess and review the Key Performance Indicators as gleaned from progress report and ensure that the mentor-mentee relation is yielding success as expected.
